Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (/mænˈdɛlə/;[4] Xhosa pronunciation: [xoˈliːɬaɬa manˈdeːla];

18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist who served asPresident of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was South Africa's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheidthrough tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999.
A Xhosa born to the Thembu royal family, Mandela attended the Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law. Living in Johannesburg, he became involved in anti-colonial politics, joining the ANC and becoming a founding member of its Youth League. After the South African National Party came to power in 1948, he rose to prominence in the ANC's 1952 Defiance Campaign, was appointed superintendent of the organisation's Transvaal chapter and presided over the 1955 Congress of the People. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, was unsuccessfully prosecuted in the Treason Trial from 1956 to 1961. Influenced by Marxism, he secretly joined the South African Communist Party (SACP) and sat on its Central Committee. Although initially committed to non-violent protest, in association with the SACP he co-founded the militant Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) in 1961, leading a sabotage campaign against the apartheid government. In 1962, he was arrested, convicted of conspiracy to overthrow the state, and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Rivonia Trial.
Mandela served over 27 years in prison, initially on Robben Island, and later in Pollsmoor Prison and Victor Verster Prison. An international campaign lobbied for his release. He was released in 1990, during a time of escalating civil strife. Mandela joined negotiations with President F. W. de Klerk to abolish apartheid and establish multiracial elections in 1994, in which he led the ANC to victory and became South Africa's first black president. He published his autobiography in 1995. During his tenure in the Government of National Unity he invited several other political parties to join the cabinet. As agreed to during the negotiations to end apartheid in South Africa, he promulgated a new constitution. He also created the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate past human rights abuses. While continuing the former government's liberal economic policy, his administration also introduced measures to encourage land reform, combat poverty, and expand healthcare services. Internationally, he acted as mediator between Libya and the United Kingdom in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing trial, and oversaw military intervention in Lesotho. He declined to run for a second term, and was succeeded by his deputy, Thabo Mbeki. Mandela became an elder statesman, focusing on charitable work in combating poverty andHIV/AIDS through the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Mandela was a controversial figure for much of his life. Denounced as a communist terrorist by critics,[5][6] he nevertheless gained international acclaim for his activism, having received more than 250 honours, including the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize, the US Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Soviet Order of Lenin and the Bharat Ratna. He is held in deep respect within South Africa, where he is often referred to by his Xhosa clan name, Madiba, or as Tata ("Father"); he is often described as "the father of the nation".

New Era of Peace Begins in Mindanao

Messenger of Peace Hosts a Peace Agreement to Bridge the Gap between Catholic and Islamic Leaders

Mindanao is the second largest and southernmost major island in the Philippines. It is also the name of one of the three island groups in the country (the other two being Luzon and the Visayas), consisting of the island of Mindanao and smaller surrounding islands. Davao City is the largest city in Mindanao. Of the island's population of 21,968,174 (according to the 2010 census) 10 percent is Muslim.

Mindanao is the only geographical area of the Philippines with a significantly large Muslim presence. The southernmost part of Mindanao, particularly Maguindanao Province, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, and Tawi-tawi provinces (part of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)), are home to a sizeable Muslim population. Due to widespread poverty and religious differences, the island has seen a communist insurgency as well as armed Moro separatist movements.
Eight of the top 10 agri-commodities exported from the Philippines come from here.

MANILAA new era of peace has started in the Mindanao Island, a region stricken by a long history of religious conflict between Catholics and Muslims that has claimed over 100,000 lives. The peace movement, led by peace advocate Man Hee Lee marks Lee’s third visit to the Philippines from South Korea at the request of Archbishop Antonio J. Ledesma and other religious leaders and students.

On January 23rd, Messenger of Peace Man Hee Lee met with Archbishop Ledesma and other bishops of Cagaya de Oro, who signed the Peace Agreement for ending war and achieving world peace. On January 24th, despite high alerts of violence, Mr. Lee traveled to the Mindanao region where he was welcomed by hundreds of students. Messengers were sent ahead of him to gather people before Mr. Lee arrived and a groundbreaking peace walk of students from the University of Mindanao, youth associations, mayors and religious leaders filled downtown General Santos. The walk, held for the first time in the midst of high alerts of violence, transcended religions and nationalities and inspired the Filipino youth generation that peace is possible. Joining Mr. Lee was also Ms. Kim Nam Hee who is working with women leaders to advocate peace.

Following the Mindanao peace walk, a forum to discuss a solution of peace brought together Fernando Capalla, former archbishop of Mindanao Davao and Esmael Mangudadatu, Governor of Maguindanao (an Islamic autonomous district in Mindanao). For the first time in 40 years, these representatives of Catholicism and Islam united to sign the peace agreement for ending war and achieving World Peace and pledged to work together with Chairman Man Hee Lee of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light. In addition, Capalla and Mangudadatu vowed before God, the people of the world, and the approximately 150 participants to end disputes between Catholics and Muslims.

Although a previous Peace Agreement meeting hosted by the Philippine government and the Islam autonomous region was signed in 2012, violent killings have since interrupted the call for peace. Now, through Mr. Lee’s efforts to meet with religious and city leaders, empowering youth and the united signing of the Peace Agreement, the Filipino government and its citizens were able to see a change in their nation from death to life. They expressed their gratitude to Mr. Lee by commemorating the memorable day with a peace festival in the city.

The work of Messenger of Peace Mr. Lee is becoming recognized throughout many nations as this visit to the Philippines marks his 8th World Tour. He has since travelled to over 58 countries to advocate the message of peace. In November of last year, Mr. Lee began his tour in the United States and spoke at the University of Southern California. Furthermore, working together with school organizations of UCLA, UC Irvine, Cal Poly Pomona, Pepperdine and Cal State Fullerton, he organized a rally for peace aboard theSS Lane Victory ship in San Pedro, CA.

What a wonderful world(2) A beautiful Street in Bohn, Germany.

This picture above is the street of Bonn which used to be the capital city of Germany. It is so beautiful with cherry blossom in full bloom.

Germany was one of the countries which had gone through the 2nd World War, but luckily this city had the least damage at that time.

The people in Bohn seem that they like to keep their houses and buildings as they have been instead of breaking and rebuilding them.
The streets are arranged so neatly and everything such as shops, buildings is rarely changed so you can imagine how they are without seeing them anytime.
Although Germany was the country which brought on the 2nd World War, because of a few leaders, you can imagine how they have loved to keep the beautiful heritages and peaceful things by looking around the streets.

When the wall of East and West had been broken, this street was the place where all people got together and shared their joy one another hugging with tears.

This street reminds me of the unification of Korea and also the peaceful world.

What a wonderful world! (1) Peaceful Boppart in Germany, Europe.

Germany, a fascinating country

In there, I met a small town by destiny to stay for couple of months.
I'm going to tell you about this lovely town, named “Boppart”.
Boppard is a town in the Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, lying in the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its population is around 16,000 and its area is 75.13 km².

(Actually, it is so beautiful and peaceful that I can’t describe enough with my words,, but I will try. lol)
Since the wide river runs through the land in the middle, it is always peaceful in every season.

This picture was taken in a chairlift.

When you ride a chairlift called "Vierseenblick", you may enjoy the spectacular view of the Rhein river and the foot of the mountain with cute houses.

Going for Walk in Boppart.

It seems Boppart is the place where makes people take a walk voluntarily.
Along the river, there are pretty houses and hotels with gardens. There are also a lot of colorful flowers everywhere in warm seasons welcoming you.
One more impressive thing is people live in Boppart. Many of them are elderly people and they would greet you with a face wreathed in smiles. You could feel their warm hearts.

Flowers, people, and the generous Rein river...
Staying there with enjoying these things is precious memories for me.

When I left there, I promised myself to come back this town some time or other in my life.
Also, walking along the river, I wished that I would like to be a person like this town which was able to make others feel calm and peaceful.

Elsa in Frozen and Kim yeon-ah; wishing good luck to Sochi!!

Sochi Olympic has just started!

I’m so excited to meet all of the athletics through these games and comtetitions in this Olympic.
Each of them has been practicing and making an effort so much for this time.
So, I’m very proud of all of them and want to give them applaud. Go, Go!!

When it comes to winter sports, the figure skating is the most famous game in my country, Korea.
That’s because a Gold medalist in the figure skating is in Korea.
Her name is Kim yeon-ah, the queen of the figure skating.
I’m looking forward to watch her competitions wishing to win the GOLD one again! :)

By the way, I have watched an animation movie last week named 'Frozen'. It has been hitting Korea a lot, and the main character, Elsa, reminds me of Kim yeon ah.

And this video is the Kim yeon-ah's free skating competition at '2009~2010 trophy Eric Bompard'
Actually, its music was originally George Gershwin's 'piano concerto in F major' but it has been remade covering with Ost of Frozen ‘Let it go’.
She looks like Elsa in Frozen, doesn’t she? lol

Disney's Frozen OST " let it go"

Idina Menzel

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight

Not a footprint to be seen

A kingdom of isolation

and it looks like i'm the queen

The wind is howling like theswirling storm inside

couldn't keep it in

Heaven knows i've tried

'Don't let them in, Don't let them see'

'Be the good girl you always have to be'

'Conceal, don't feel, Don't let them know'

Well, now they know

Let it go, Let it go

can't hold it back anymore

Let it go, Let it go

Turn away and slam the door

I don't care

What they're going to say

Let the storm rage on

The cold never bothered me anyway

It's funny how some distance

Makes everything seem small

And the fears that once controlled me

Can't get to me at all

It's time to see what I can do

To test limits and nreak through

No right, No wrong, No rules for me

I'm free
