“What is the real peaceful solution of conflict?"

-about the territorial dispute between China and Vietnam-

In May this year, there were numerous conflicts between China and Vietnam as China established Tension Leg Platforms in Paracel Islands (It is known as 'Hoang Sa' in Vietnamese and 'Xisha island' in Chinese), so Vietnam dispatched lots of ships including armed ships and obstructed their operations.

 

Many analysts think that anti-China feeling in Vietnam which has been formed for 35 years after China-Vietnam war in 1979 reached its climax.

Vietnam and China were companions of communistic revolution in the early 20th century. But since 1969, when Ho Chi Minh died, the diplomatic relations between the two countries has been cracked.

Although communism had once played a role of connecting the two countries, now their relations seem to agree like cats and dogs. They fight with each other and even raise riots arguing that they received the Paracel Islands as a legacy from each ancestor.

 

Though, at last, they agreed with the principle that they try to solve the territorial conflict peacefully on June 18. But they still sticked to their own situations and just confirmed the differences between each opinion about the point. It means that they agreed with the basic principle of solving conflicts but the war is just paused provisionally. The conflict seems to be continued for a considerable time.

 

So, what is the peaceful solution that they want? Even though they were companions once, now they became the enemy criticizing and blaming each other. I'm wondering that any problem could be solved peacefully if people do not back down, and their behaviors and words that they want to solve it peacefully are true. Can really those who don't know what peace is and don't want peace be able to achieve it? I think the one who has the answer that can solve the problem can achieve real peace. I wish and wait for a superman riding a white horse will come and bring about peace to this world.

Today is the 64th anniversary that North Koran broke out 6.25 war.

To protect South korea From North korean invasion, a number of young soldiers and students soldiers shed hot blood. I express sorrow with victims who haven't bloomed and died during the war and their families. I sincerely express their gratitude and respect to soldiers who save our nation for their life.

60 years ago South Korea, the poorest country in whole world, have developed as the economic power of the 15th largest in GDP in the world. On the base of patriotic martyrs' noble sacrifice, South Korea could amazingly make liberal democracy and economic development.

Unfortunately, however, the sad fact is that many people have distorted history of 6.25 war and lived with forgetting the war. So in the 64 anniversary of 6.25 war, we have to try the history and lesson not to be forgotten and focus on realigning our history education system. we have to make efforts of treating with exceptional respect for men of national merit and an excavation of remains project of the war dead.

Most of all, the most important thing is to achieve the beautiful world peace without wars and battles. the blood of those who had never bloomed will not be worthless.

I hope all the people who love and want peace become one mind and achieving the peaceful world without wars.

Attitudes to be kept in mind with watching soccer in Nigeria

 

 

 

We prepare many things to enjoy the World Cup. Things like delicious food, cheering tools, friends to be with, limitless stamina, mind of loving soccer and patriotism. When we watch soccer together, we are cheering with one accord. But, some accidents always happen even in a delightful festival. Moreover, it is common for the kind of accident in that situation to be ignored rather than in normal situation.

 

 

A suicide bomb terror occurred in Damaturu TV public center, north-east Yobe state in the evening of 18, this month. A taxi having bombs came into the public center right after the game between Brazil and Mexico was broadcasted. 14 casualties were dead and 26 people were injured. Most of the victims caused by the accident were children and young men. This makes me so sad. How sudden is this accident to the people who would wait for the soccer game with excited mind in front of the TV? Nigeria local police regarded this accident had been caused by an organization called Boko Haram.

 

 

A terrorist group, Boko Haram is an Islam extremism organization which was organized in 2001. Boko means ‘western non-Islam education’, and Haram means ‘guilt’. So it means ‘Western education style is a guilt.’. As it can be guessed from its meaning, they have committed crimes targeting christians or people who are educated in western style.

 

 

 

It is the group that commits serious crimes like attacking a public girls’ school and kidnapping 276 middle school students in April, and 11 girls early in May. Just few weeks ago, on 3 of June, they attacked a village in Borno which is located in north east in Nigeria and killed its 400-500 residents. Through this accident, it can be sure that this group is really dangerous. By the way, why did they make a terror to the soccer spectators?

 

 

 

Some of Islamists said the reason is that they regard soccer games including the World Cup as an anti-Islam. They think they don’t need to play soccer complying with the rule made by Jewish or Christians. Also, because they regard not only playing but also watching soccer game as the action destroying Islamic mind, they point out people watching the World Cup outside together as a target of terror. So, it seems really dangerous in Nigeria.

 

 

 

World Cup is an international sports festival for all global citizens, transcending race, religion, philosophy, language and culture. Enjoying the World Cup will get better when people have good cheering cultures and fair playing minds.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil; the world festival for the World Peace

  The 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the largest sport festival in the world, was opened on June 13. This world cup will be played in 12 cities such as Sao Paulo, Curitiba, etc until Juy 14. Its slogan of All in one rhythm stamps Brazil on the country of Samba.  Korea in a group- H will play against Belgium, Russia, Algeria and challenge the top 16. Brazil taking third in FIFA Ranking aims to win playing against Mexico, Cameroon, Croatia in a group- A. Though Brazil have been considered the worst public security in the world from before opening, about 600,000 visitors from all over the world have visited Brazil to enjoy 2014 World Cup.

 

Korean national soccer team has been to qualified for the World Cup in 8 breaks and created the legend of reaching the semifinals at 2002 World Cup. And they advanced the first top 16 in an away match in 2010 South Africa World Cup. This time, the goal of Korean national soccer team is advancing to the quarterfinals first in an away match.

I hope them achieve their goal.    

 

This World Cup will be not only an international soccer competition but also World Festival that realizes the harmony and peace of human beings and transcends nationality, nation, race, language. In the Ivory Coast, Africa losing tens of thousands of lives because of the civil wars, the ardent appeal of a player attending last 2006 World Cup worked marvels that stopping gunshots during that period. After that, a peace treaty was concluded ended the civil war fully, which showed World Cup could contribute to achieve national World Peace and unity.

     

Sports are not wars. Therefore playing pair is much more important than winning.

Though the national soccer players have trained to win in matches, they have to redound to national honor as a member of the national team

  

Now the whole people must have a role of 24th player. We have give our players power and courage with cheering up hard and loud applause. In last 2002 World Cup, we surprised the world with the Korean reserve of force. The reserve of force is the national unity and the power of unity.

       

The disaster of passenger ship caused sadness for our entire country, so an excessive passion about World Cup may be going to create a conflict. It is for us to forger the sadness but to remember and overcome the sadness, also, it is not to cover but to hear and sublimate our sad emotion to our strong power.

   

I hope this 2014 world cup will be a place for festival that the whole nation is united in rooting for the national team. and I also hope it will be that all of us will be able to overcome frustration and loss and revive depression Korean with embers of hope.

MEXICO – the Country with Emerald Seas and Peace, and the Trace of Chairman Man Hee Lee

Mexico is one of the most desirable honeymoon destinations in the world. Mexico is 8 times larger than the size of the Korean Peninsula with various civilizations such as Mayan, Toltec and Aztec civilization, having 27 UNESCO World Heritages. Cancún, the coastal town of Mexico, was once a small fishing village in the 70’s but now it is considered the best vacation spot internationally, having about 4 million visitors every year. Cancún, which is ‘the nest of snakes’ in Mayan language, is especially popular in America because it is possible to directly fly from America to Cancún. The emerald seas, find sandy beach, and the picturesque hotels – Cancún is full of factors to be called the best vacation spot especially for honeymoon.

Here is a city I want to recommend you to visit if you have a chance to go Mexico aside from Cancún. It is Veracruz. Veracruz is the eastern end of Mexico and the first land which Hernan Corteś, a Spanish conqueror, set foot on in Mexico. It is famous for Cafe de leche, that is café latte. Besides, it has a full-fledged fish market so that it is good to enjoy fresh seafood dishes.

Aside from the superb landscape and delicious food, there is something to feel proud as a Korean in Veracruz. It is the fact that Man Hee Lee who is the chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (“HWPL”) also began the peace movement in Mexico and he was given such passionate support from the Mexican people. On May 20, Man Hee Lee and his group were credited with the peace movement in Mexico and awarded a letter of appreciation and a medal from the mayor of Veracruz. About 28 presses widely reported this. In addition, Peace Seminar and Peace Agreement Ceremony ended in great success at the Christopher Columbus University of Veracruz, Mexico and Technological Institute of Boca del Rio on May 22.

Man Hee Lee, the chairman of HWPL, has visited 44 countries and delivered the message of peace to the whole world since 2012. And now he takes the lead of peace in Mexico. I am looking forward to how peace will be brought to this country.

Namwon Chunhyang Festival, 'Love story is colored with Namwon'(June 12~17)

Namwon Chunhyang Festival, 'Love story is colored with Namwon which was postponed due to the disaster of Sinking of the MV Sewol, come to an end today. It could have been cancelled on account of Sinking of the MV Sewol, but Chunhyang Festival that reached their 84th anniversary opened one month later.

   Performance for celebration in the first part of its first day is started with admiring the souls of victims of Sinking of the MV Sewol. This festival was chosen as 2014 Representative Performance Art Festival by Ministry of Culture, so it arranged art performances such as opera gala show, Chunhyangjeon which is Korean traditional opera, and Chunhyangga sung    in duet to attract audiences. 

 
Although Highlight of this festival is carried out from 12th to 17th is absolutely Miss Chunhyang Beauty Pageant, it provokes controversy every year. The organizers and audiences should not forget that Chunhyang Festival is for honoring Chunhyang's noble mind of love. Every event in Chunhyang Fesitival is proceeded at Namwon Gwanghallu, it is opened for free in the duration of the festival. Also, In this period, specialties of Imsil and Namwon were sold and there were the places for experiencing crafts, food items marketplace and auto camping place in Yocheon riverside, so families can enjoy this festival and camping. Although I live in where that's not too far from Namwon, I couldn't go to there in duration of the festival. Especially, there were so many various exciting programs this year. But I've already missed it, so I really want and decided to visit Namwon next year. This traditional festival has been lasted for a long time. And I want it to be developed to a good festival that everyone wants to come every year!

  

Namwon is not the place just for Chunhyang Festival but also for a variety of festivals and attractions. The simplest explanation is that there are Herb Festival opened in Herb Valley, Royal Azaleas of Baraebong Peak Festival apart from Gwanghallu. Unfortunately, Royal Azaleas of Baraebong Peak Festival is at term, but various herbs are waiting for a number of people’s visit now in season in Herb Valley. I went to Herb Valley two times, and it was decorated charmingly for families to hang out, take pictures and have a rest. Two years ago, It was impressive and memorable that I passed a red flower (like poppy) garden on the road of Herb Valley. I think it is a good idea to soothe inconvenience that you could not see Chunhyang Festival by visiting Herb Valley before the end of June, confirming whether the flower garden exists or not. 

I recommend you to make your mouth be pleasant by eating famous food ‘chueotang’ in Namwon, if you satisfied your eyes with attractions. I desire to introduce just one famous restaurant, but chueotang in all restaurants where I have been to was tasty. By the way, it is a trap that I enjoy every food.

I become happy when I think about many delicious food as well as Chunhyang Festival. Today is the last day of the festival, and there will be a recording of a famous TV program 'Singing Contest all around the country'. I'm getting sweet smile automatically when I think about the program's MC, Mr. Song (Hae Song) who is always smiling and saying 'Singing Contest all around the country~!’.

News of Peace Comes to Mexico

The news of peace have been spread out titled deceasing wars and world peace restoration of light throughout the five seas and the six continents. Meeting lots of people, the news came to Veracruz, Mexico with hope. The peace advocate Man Hee Lee was awarded a note of appreciation by its mayor. More than 15 media had took part in and reported this event to Mexico and to the world reporting 30 different media.

Veracruz is a city had many historical events in Mexico. It was a first land in Mexico where the conqueror Hernan Corteś stepped on in 1519 to conquer the continent of South America. As you know, there was a plantation system in the Age of Exploration. Those European countries such as Spain, Portugal and England got tons of people from Africa by trading or kidnaping them. They took Africans and shipped to Americas. They got the Africans work in farms to sell the products such as sugar, sugar cane, or some alcohol made from that plants to Europa, and made so much fortune by trading them.

This is called 'triangular trade', and it could be possible because of the African who had worked in the farms suffering without their intention. And, while they were staying America, the mixed blood came out. This caused problems of mixed blood with lots of crimes and discrimination.

Mexico has been also suffering with the corruptions, crimes and discrimination. It can be seen as a peaceful place for resting and sightseeing. However, it has tragic history and there are still so many social problems and desperate situations.

In that time, Mr. Man Hee Lee's 10th trip must have shown them light. Before, he visited Tijuana City in Mexico during 7th trip. And this time, he visited Veracruz and had peace conference and peace walk lately.

Mr. Man Hee Lee mentioned that he believed there must be peace soon in this land, Mexico as the meaning of its name, peace and blessing. Also he said all of us, the leaders and citizens of each country, need to work together and do their best in the positions where they belong in order to achieve peace.

And he said that, "I feel so desperate whenever I think of the victims of Sewol ferry. The peaceful world is having no corruptions by enrooting only justice. That is true peace with calm and harmony. To make it, the message of peace has to be delivered, so that people should live with peace and blessing in their mind. He empathized it.

This speech inspired leaders and citizens of Mexico. I hope the news from Mr. Man Hee Lee can be a touching motivation for peace.

 

World Day Against Child Labor, June 12

 

Each year on June 12 is the World Day Against Child Labour set by The International Labour Organization (ILO). Some 218 million children throughout the world are involved in work that deprives them from receiving adequate education, health, leisure and basic freedoms, violating this way their rights. Of these children, more than half are exposed to the worst forms of child labour. These worst forms of child labour include work in hazardous environments, slavery, or other forms of forced labour, illicit activities such as drug trafficking and prostitution.

 

From 2002, International Labor Organization (ILO) set every June 12 as a World Day Against Child and spreading the children's reality. So, many various campaigns are held all around the world. Every year, about 22,000 children die from child labor and it occurs in 76 countries. They are paid about 3,600 won for 24 hours per a week, and the children who are exploited for child labor are 218,000,000, four times than Korean population.

 

Around the world, a large numbers of children are engaged in paid or unpaid domestic work in the home of a third party or employer. These children can be particularly vulnerable to exploitation. Most of the children are engaged in work requiring physical work for a long time, and if the farm work takes place in the harsh heat and cold, they get huge burdens on the bodies. Also, they are exposed to pesticides and toxic chemicals such as pesticides.

 

It is not possible for the children who have to work everyday to think of the opportunity to study, liberty and even break time.

What waits for the children is the labor which has no freedom and which is like slaves. Child labor is not only children's own problem or their family problem, but also entirely social problem and further, whole world's problem. Children who live in the world that forces them to do the labors spend their lives day by day losing their precious things. What can we do for these children who leave in hard and miserable circumstance?

 

    

There is a fair trade movement for the little practice. Fair trade movement is a society movement that is organized for the model which is based on paying the fair price related to producing the product. To support producer's livelihood, the products are purchased directly at a fair price and it protects the environment. It was started in Holland in 1988 and the movement organizations gathered from all around the world launched the Fair trade Labelling Organizations (FLO) in 1997.

 

Fair trade product producers are following the standards about child labor human rights, and managing not to be infringed on children's welfare, safety and the required terms about education. If you use the fair trade product, you can help their basic human rights and welfares.

    

When I think about the children who collect scrap irons from a trash heap and carry the heavy burdens during a whole day without any break time, and harvest coffee beans and cacao under the blazing sun even now, my heart is broken. We wish for the world that never has the children be exploited, and think about the helpful practical way for them, and today, hope a meaningful great day to you.

When we think of Mexican food, you might think of the chili sauce such as tabasco and hot sauce. Chilies are one of the most ingredients in Mexican food, they are used in most of Mexican food. 'Chili Festivals' take place in Mexico to introduce the benefits of them, for our health and to popularize chilies which a symbol of Mexican food.

"There are four seasons in Mexico, so we have various chilies and diverse menus using chili. Chilies are like our identity and the essentials of Mexican food. There is a saying that he is not Mexican if he doesn't eat chili." 

I could understand how chili is close to Mexican people from the interviewer's message.

Mexico is a country of chili which is a token of hot taste. Mexico has chosen chilies as a theme of festival but I am wondering how it would be if they open a festival of peace. Recently, I heard news about Peace Walk, peace seminar and peace agreement were done successfully in Mexico. I aspire this peace movement will be spread all over Mexico as a theme of festival.

20th last month, a very meaningful peace seminar was held at Christopher Columbus University and Boca del rio Engineering College.  In this event, vice president, professors, and 500 students attended. I think this event is meaningful not because of peace agreement ceremony or a note of thanks was given to Man Hee Lee, the peace leader for his peace work. But what I mean meaningful was Mr. Lee's speech moved hearts of Mexican citizens and they started to show their interest for peace.

More than 15 press media interviewed him, and people gave a big hand to his speech about peace.  Mr. Lee said that peace is not a matter of individual or an organization but it is an issue for all the people in this planet. Everyone should be a peace advocate stopping dispute and conflict.

I wish that the peace festival would last forever in the heart of citizens of Mexico like Mr. Lee’s earnest appeal for peace.

World Environment Day is annually on June 5. On June 5, 1972 in United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, in Stockholm,Sweden, it was adopted as the day to develop the campaign of environmental preservation by UN. World Environment Day is similar to Earth Day as a global event.

 

On the day, the countries around the world hold many events and campaigns to conserve the environment in various ways. In 2013, all parts of the world various campaigns happened under the slogan of Think, Eat, Save.In 2014, this year's formal slogan is Raise your voice, not the sea level.

According to UN Environment Programme (UNEP), they want to let practicable Green lifes continued through supermodel Gisele Bundchen, actor Don cheadle, Ian Somerhalder, and soccer player Yaya Toure. goodwill ambassadors of this year's World Environment Day.

Gisele Bundchen informs of problems of food waste and an actor Don Cheadle works in reducing the consumption of the electricity. Actor Ian Somerhalder supports Green life, soccer player Yaya toure gives appeal for reducing the use of plastic To achieve these, the performance that these four goodwill ambassadors introduce is the campaigns, Message in the Bottle. They are waiting for everyone to participate in it.

The song, Message in the Bottle, was sung by singer The police and Sting took part in composing it. By signing up the behavior pledge of supporting World Environment Day, people can join in this campaign.

World Environment Day recognizes us that we all face the same problems and point to the common goal. So that everyone living in global village leads a rich life, not thinking June 5 as a day just to celebrate, we should put our small things into practice to keep and preserve environment every day,

Today, I will introduce a movie, 「If you were me」 . This shows the sigh of people who lost human rights, the basic right that everyone has as humans. This movie is an omnibus film. Six movie directors expressed their thoughts on human rights in an each short film. These six directors used to be not well known at that time. But now, most of them became famous. They are director Chan-wook Park who is famous for the movies named 「Old Boy」, 「Snowpiercer」, director Soon-rye Lim who directed 「Waikiki Brothers」 and 「Forever the Movement」, director Jin-pyo Park who is well known for the movies called  「You're My Sunshine」 and  「Voice of a Murder」, Jae-eun Jeong, Gyun-dong Yeo, and Gwang-su Park. This film had to be made using the omnibus format. Because it was dealing with each person's life. That means, in other words, it shows our societies have lots of unfairness in terms of human rights. 

Each segment shows different sides of South Korea. The various forms of storytelling are enough to arouse the interest. All six segments of this omnibus film are devoted to the human rights: ‘The “weight” of Her’ the story regarding a high school girl who wants to get plastic surgery for getting a job, ‘The Man with an Affair’ the story regarding the rights of a criminal whose personal information is opened to the public, ‘Crossing’ regarding a man who can’t do whatever he wants because of cerebral palsy, ‘Tongue Tie’ regarding a preschool aged child who gets a tongue surgery for the high English skill, ‘Face Value’ regarding a parking information girl who is dragged into a fight because of her beauty, and lastly ‘Never Ending Peace and Love’ regarding a foreigner who looks like Korean had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for 6 years and 4 months for eating out ramen without money.

 

This film was produced in 2003, and I watched it in 2010. It has been 11 years now since the film was made and 4 years since I watched it. But now, that matter shows no sign of being resolved. The human rights still are one of the most controversial issues of our society. Besides, those who like the main characters of the film now exist here and there in our society. Sometimes the deprivation of human rights happens to us, though, we easily forget and overlook this kind of matters.

 

「If you were me」 tells different human rights in different views. However, the point of this movie can be shortened in a word as subtitle.

Mexico: Veracruz Mayor Awarded a Letter of Appreciation for Contribution for Peace

The mayor of a Mexican port city awarded a letter of appreciation. The winner is Man hee Lee, the representative of a peace organization, named Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL). In the interview with reporters, he expressed that all the leaders in the world and their people must put their hearts together and carry out their work with the humble and honest hearts.

 Also, he emphasized “The real peace is that, it goes without saying that wars must be ceased, and the world becomes harmonious and peaceful so that it becomes the world with justice and without corruption. So, to achieve the world peace, we must keep delivering the message of peace continuously. The people must be filled with peace and blessings in their hearts and there must not be any pains, sorrows, and sufferings anymore.

 On that day, the reporters admired and expected that Korea will, too, be extremely excited with his steps for the world peace.

 Mexican citizens are suffering from the war with crime. One of the reasons that the crime rate in Mexico is high is because of the drug. In fact, the drug cartel engages in internationally, deeply in the Central and South America. And it is the fact that Mexico is in their sphere of influence. Mostly, the people who are related with the drug crimes in Mexico are poor or the native Mexicans.

 There is a reason that the drug culture became pervasive in the poor strata like the natives and farmers. It is North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), like Korea made FTA with USA. With the trade agreement between USA and Mexico, Mexico had to hand over most of their national government enterprises to the invested capital. As a result, the labor market became flexible. People lost their jobs and became the unemployed due to high labor intensity and too long working hours. They became to get stressed socially and economically due to rising prices from privatization of electricity and water and hospitals. Furthermore, most of Mexican public officials are seriously corrupted and they were bribed from drug criminal organizations so the war with crime is not actually working. Also, corruption takes root among politicians so they’re just interested in accumulating their fortunes and are not interested in safety of citizens.

 To summarize this, Mexican people need drugs because they can’t find hope in their lives. They are suffering from high unemployment rates and unstable law and order. In this society, the representative Lee’s speech would raise the Mexican government, religious leaders and media’s awareness.

 It is not only just a Mexican problem, but also the international one. If the government and leaders in each country love their nation and people, they should do their best to play their roles and try to guarantee people’s livings and safety regardless of any economic, political and social position. That way, we can come close to peace.
