The Letter that Nobel Peace Prize laureates of many generations send to Obama

12 Nobel Peace Prize laureates of many generations sent a public letter to Obama, which is about “Stop using torture to terror suspect”

This letter was written by Bishop Desmond Tutu(South Africa and José Ramos Horta(the former president of East Timor), and other 10 people were with them.

In this letter, Nobel Peace Prize laureates of many generations criticized that the U.S. has justified torture to establish justice. Besides, they emphasized Obama who won the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 has to act for ending the torture completely.

Now, the U.S. is following the Bush administration's rule - The Convention against Torture only works in the U.S. So, there have been criticisms that the U.S. is confining the terror suspects at Guantanamo, Cuba, etc., other institutions beyond the U.S. borders, and torture.

Now, it was reported that the Obama administration is discussing whether they follow the Bush administration's rule - The Convention Against Torture only works in the U.S - or not.

There is sometimes a gap between reality and ideals in the world we live.
Everyone dreams peace, however, they declare war without mercy when the national interest, faith, and personal autonomy are threatened.
2,000 years ago, Jesus who came as a king of the peace gave the lesson that “To love your enemy” And he forgave them while he died on the cross.
Without somebody’s sacrifice and effort, the peace does not come.
I pray for the time when good triumph over evil, the real peace abides the whole world.

“Everyone, rejoice! The world was once full of suffering, confusion, death, and conflicts but now, the religious leaders have signed the peace agreement to become one for peace. This is peace. I want to spread this message. The new era of peace has begun.”

Who would have thought, politicians, religious leaders, youth and woman's group leaders would gather together, regardless of race, age, and gender to end all wars and achieve world peace. Mr. Man Hee Lee, the chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), invited these people to Seoul, South Korea and declared 'The Era of Peace' to the world.
.
The WARP summit, which was held from the 17th through the 19th of September, 2014 in Seoul, South Korea, launched an international peace event with many participants from over 20 different nations including 2000 or more religious leaders, youth group leaders, women's group leaders, peace group leaders, related group leaders and over 20 thousand HWPL members.

On the last day of the summit, approximately 30,000 people including 650 youth group members from 140 different nations participated in a peace walk shouting, "we want peace!" in front of the Peace Gate in Olympic Park in Sonpa-gu, Seoul. Chairman Man Hee Lee said, “God, the creator, has been working up to this day for this event” and added, “Now that the religions are uniting, all creations and humanity are free. Could there be a greater news than this?” The youths from all over the world, who came to the Korean peninsula, where the longest armistice was still in place, agreed with Chairman Lee and exclaimed with a loud applaud.

An idea that passed scholars, and politicians!

Chairman Lee’s peace activities have a long history. After travelling around the world 14 times for the past three years, and meeting political and religious leaders to invite them to join in revising the international law regarding the cessation of war and world peace, he hosted the peace agreement ceremony in the WARP Summit, in order to effectively achieve world of peace.

On September 18th current and former presidents and global religious leaders, who were inspired by Chairman Lee’s activities, joined in the movement towards the cessation of war and world peace through alliance of religion by singing on the peace agreement in the Grand Ballroom located in 63 Convention Center, Seoul.

Antonio Ledesma, the Archbishop of Mindanao, Philippines commented, “HWPL is a strong light that leads the way” and further added, “Just as Chairman Lee played a crucial role in uniting the Islam and Christianity in Mindanao, the heavenly culture must be spread to all over the world, in order to create unity between all.”

Emil Constantinescu, the former president of Romania said, “I was inspired, when I saw the Heavenly Culture that was led by Chairman Lee. This was an idea that passed scholars and politicians.” And added “We should share what we saw today with all people to learn.”

Tawakkol Karman, the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize noted, “I have never seen a meeting with this number of people, who came to for peace” and said, “I hope Chairman Lee’s insight could be shared with all Non-Governmental Organization, so that this type of meeting could be hosted more in the future.”

Elizabeth Kachin, from PTV, the national broadcast corporation of the Philippines, regarding the successful peace agreement in Mindanao achieved by Chairman Lee commented, “It was surprising to see a Korean, who played a crucial role to solve the conflict that lasted for 40 years between the government and their opposition and successfully made the peace agreement possible.” She firmly believed that with the Chairman, world peace and the cessation of war will be possible.

Khaled Al Shouli, a reporter from CBSP who covers the events in the Middle East including the Gaza District in Palestine said, “His ideas are inspiring” and added, “It is very important to the humanity that people from different religion, ethnicity, continents, and even gender all gathered here for the purpose to end all wars and achieve world peace. It is a great honor for me to participate in this Summit.”

The WARP Summit gathered many attentions from its Opening Ceremony in September 17th. Jamsil Olympic Stadium was filled with 200,000 audiences, who came to celebrate world peace and exclaimed at the peace message delivered by the speakers. Turn garbage into art: Gum painting campaign.

Walking without thinking, there are some gums that I step on. Sticky feeling makes me annoyed. Looking at the street closely, we can see a gub(gum stain) a one or two step. After reading this writing, you can find enormous patches of discarded gums. There is a project that such dirty and messy discarded gums can be seen by another eyes.

This project called Gum Painting Campaign is a nonprofit organization painting on patches of discarded gums on the streets. These projects usually give messages of warning. Thought of giving a forceful feeling, however, like “Don’t leave a gum” is wrong. Gum paintings are so cute and pretty.

This project started as assignment for artist Hyeong Cheol Kim to do while in college. In early days, not gum painting, but piling patches of discarded gums highly and creating something with them. After he had tried many things and undergone trial and error, this Gum Painting Campaign showed up. This project that volunteers have done as volunteering activity doesn’t just paint on patches of discarded gums. By seeing Gum Painting, people realize this project and then it let people think one more about spilling out gum.

These days, a lot of damages affected environmental pollution from all over the world have been brought on the news. So many campaigns that let people be interest in nature have started. We have to pay attention not only obtrusive litters, but also small ones like patches of discarded gum. The gum painting project make us think our conscience that was left out on the street with patches of discarded gum.

Hurricane Gonzalo

After Hurricane Gonzalo passed through Bermuda, the flight of 20 biggest carriers were all cancelled from the Heathrow International Airport, London, due to heavy rain and high winds.  The gusts up to 75mph in coastal area caused travel disruption including airplane. They said that it was calm night before it hit Bermuda, when the storm’s  eye  reached on Bermuda. A state of calm before storm!  Hurricane Gonzalo with high winds hit Bermuda on 18th caused power cuts to  31200 homes.  It carried with the floods and  tidal waves, but minor injuries were reported up to now.

In this earth where we live, there are places where damaged by Hurricane and many people are uneasy with a power blackout.  In some places, people suffered from the war day and night.  Yet, in other place, calm like a night before a storm although thousands of people die from hunger in the opposite side of the earth.  These all happen in this earth where we live.  How about the place where I live? Indeed, nobody can predict how long this calmness will last. A few days ago, gun battles  took place in Military Demarcation Line on Korean Peninsula.  I feel I am in a pressure cooker in fear of outbreak of war  in one day.   I do hope to live in a secure and peaceful world day by day.

Dr. Schweitzer in the UK, William Pooley, a nurse who was recovered completely from Ebola virus

Dr. Schweitzer < Dr. Schweitzer in the UK, William Pooley, a nurse who was recovered completely from Ebola virus >

William Pooley(29) who is a nurse, the patient zero in the UK, was infected with Ebola virus in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Last August 24th, after he was transferred to the Royal Free Hospital in London,
He was meditated ZMapp which is a medicine for Ebola virus and under experiment. He finally rounded to healthiness.

<The Hamstead Royal Free Hospital in London, the UK which William Pooley is treated Enola virus>

He was infected with Ebola virus during the medical services in Africa. After recovered, he went back to the field service.
He is serving in Connaught Hospital, Free Town which is the capital city of Sierra Leone since last 20th. Also, The team The King's Health Partners which King's College London (KCL) joined up
the three-trusts of the National Health Service(NHS), the UK is with him.

Last 3rd, Pooley said at the news conference "I was lucky to be treated and recovered quickly." , "The Medicine service in Africa  was my duty"
And he has being said he wanted to go back to the field service and was going to go back there as he obtains a new passport. Actually. His passport was incinerated when he got out Sierra Leone to cure Ebola virus.

He explained, "My parents are worried about me. But they know that Medicine service is all I have to do, so they support me. He added, "After being completely cured from Ebola, I have immunity and a better health."
Pooley donated his blood for the medicine research. However, it's not clear how long his immunity will last and whether it fights the virus completely.

Pooley's sense of duty (life-and-death) about the medicine service in Africa and his devotion are great.
There's the death after medicated Z`map, for curing Ebola virus. Perhaps, the God knows his good heart which loves the poor and the alienated, so he could survive.
I'm a young person who has vision about global volunteering. If I was in Pooley's shoes, can I choose the global volunteering again like him?
He's living greatly and nicely in his 20's youth. I envy his belief and fulfill.

I think a peace activist who has love for the people (there's no race and border). If the God knows his great sacrifice, he will give the world of peace without pain and sorrow like he save Pooley.

Don't we sometimes neglect very important things in our life?

The ventilation grates collapsed during an outdoor pop concert and 16 people died in Pangyo last Friday. Therefore, concern is rising over the safety of ventilation grates above subway stations in Seoul and other metropolitan cities. Most of these grates are installed beside on sidewalks in cities. The ventilation grates are designed for pedestrian to use and one square meter of grate is designed to endure at least 500 kilograms according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government statement. The government says that they are 'deemed safety' to walk on.

This incident is a wake-up call for our insensibility of safety. Sometimes we are unaware of very important things in our life such as safety and peace. Our nation is divided into two nations and under armistice. The North Korea provoked South Korea once in a while, but it happened for 60 years after a cease-fire agreement made. Koreans, especially young people do not take it seriously because it happened repeatedly for 60 years. Our people became insensible to war and peace just like the insensibility of safety in case of Pangyo ventilation grates accident.

Korean advocator of world peace, Mr, Man Hee Lee, actively has worked for world peace and his works were known to many leaders from all over the world, and they have taken part in making world peace reality, too.  Even though he started the work to achieve world peace in a small country, Korea, it will be a great achievement in this earth. I hope that his efforts will bear fruits and world peace will be come true including peace in the earth.

Rubber Duck Project

Rubber duck showed up in Seokchon lake, Seoul, South Korea on October 14th. It looks so cute, but it weighs about 1ton. Rubber dock has send peaceful and happy messages to many people in 16 countries.  Seckchon lake is the last place of Asia tour and it will be showed until November 14th.

The reason Rubber duck became the symbol of peace is followed.
In 1992, a cargo ship whish was going from Hong Kong to America almost founder owing to a heaven rainstorm. At that time container which carried rubber duck toys dropped into the North Pacific.

28,000 rubber dock toys which poured into the ocean made a toy island. Scattered rubber ducks were moved along with ocean currents. That helped oceanographers with study ocean currents, and people were happy to see these rubber ducks which looked so cute. This led “having a rubber duck follows happiness” into them, and in 2007, an extra- large rubber duck was made, and then it became the symbol of love and peace.

On October 14th there was a happening that the rubber duck was sunk until being installed. This made people pay much more attention, and it has made a headline in just a few days

Thanks to the rubber duck which has made people of not only Korea, also all over the world smile, I was happy, too. Just a rubber dock made people relaxed and pleased. Moreover, if wars stops and achieve a real peace in this earth, how happy would we be happy?
The just a rubber duck means love and peace, then efforts that we have made for peace continuously  will achieve peace that makes all people in the earth smile.

‘A cry’ for peace

Any religion, racism and ideology could not hinder the participants’ passion for peace. Everyone was impressed by the fact that all people can gather together for a goal, and they were sure that peace can be accomplished by WARP.

-Emil Constantinescu/ Former president of Rumania/ Chairman of ICD

“I was touched by heavenly culture, everyone should learn the things no one has not thought about.”
“We need a new culture for global security. We should improve cooperation dialogue and have a system to increase mutual trust. I was so touched when I saw heavenly culture which aims new culture of peace. That was what many researchers, scholars and politicians cannot realize. We have to spread and share that to help all people to learn that. For this, through picking a representative, everyone must be able to listen to that voice.”

-Antonio Ledesma/ Archbishop of Mindanao, Philippines

“HWPL should spread heavenly culture ‘the strong light which makes us gather’ to all over the world.”
“HWPL is a strong light which guide us. That made people from different religions, ideology, race, culture, society and economy gather here for one goal. As Mr. Manhee Lee did in Mindanao, we should concord with each other to spread heavenly culture to all over the world. Heavenly culture should start from us.”

-Tawakkol Karman/ The youngest Noble peace prize winner

“Believing a creator, we should have a religion if we really love peace.”
“The cause of battles and wars belongs not to religion, but to extremists and religious leader who always have their own way in interpreting religions. If they really love peace, it is right for them to have one religions as chairman, Manhee Lee said because we believe one creator. I have never seen like this alliance that a great number of people have gathered together. I hope that many alliance like this would be generated a lot to share the insight of Mr.Lee with many non-governmental organization.

-Kgalema Motlanthe/ Vice president of South Africa

“WARP is a great opportunity that every soul can come together.”
“We could improve mutual understanding through WARP. We can make peace. Communication is important in achieving peace, and we can never make peace with the wars of religions. We should realize social disorders and some problems like that is due to religions. WARP is a great opportunity that every soul can come together.”

-Stjepan Mesic/ Former president of Croatia

“Religious leaders should work together for peace, not exerting authority”
“This WARP is the best chance which is able to make us come together and move toward communication for peace. Every religious leader have to work together for peace and security, not exerting their authority.”

-Gaudencio B. Rosales/ Cardinal ,of Manila Philippines

“World peace, the most important thing in the whole history”
we get together in this place, WARP Summit to achieve world peace. There is peace in our hands. As a person, the best purpose is peace which is the most important thing in mankind history. But no love is no peace. First of all we should love one another as the word of God.

-Bertie Ahern/ Former prime minister Ireland

“It is easy to say peace but difficult to put into action”
“This alliance that a lot of religious leader gather together and discuss about peace has never been and never will be. HWPL deserves to be praised. It is easy to say but difficult to put into action. But I think everything is possible because we can transcend race, religions, boundaries and ideology.”

-Giani Gurbachan Singh/ Sikhism  Representative of Golden Temple

“Education which can overcome differences and resolve conflicts should be made“
“Some people use religions as a tool of political terror. This is inexcusable, and we must not make the world with religious and cultural conflicts. Any mechanism of persecuting specific country or religion should go. Religious leaders should teach how to overcome differences between religions”

Up-cycled telephone booth

Up-cycled telephone booth.
As cell phones have became popular, there are something that are being forgotten to us. It is a (tele)phone booth. The last time I used a public phone was 15 years ago. the phone booth which is now a distance memory and useless wasn’t thrown away, but became up-cycle specially. I will share good examples with you.

1. Mini lending library.

A architect who proceeded with town improvement project up-cycled old phone booth into library for local residents. The way to use it is that passing people freely choose books that they want to read or people who have books they have already read  put them on as a way of donating.

2. Up- cycled aquarium.

Design students at Tokyo university of the arts turned metal phone booth into a public aquarium which is filled with goldfish.

3. ATM – Up-cycled automated teller machine

British Telecommunications are giving the red booths are in Swindon, Northampton, and slough a second life  as ATM.

4. Shelter for the homeless

Contexture Design based on Vancouver provide up-cycled phone booth for a shelter for the homeless where they can take a rest for a while, take shelter from the rain , read books, and call someone.

5.  public shower stall.

The old phone booth at Leverick Bay in Virgin Island, British turned into a shower stall that people can take a shower after swimming.

6. Out door toilet

It is a outdoor toilet in Finland. Thanks to the part of face being located is almost translate ,while  taking a dump, people can appreciate great scenery. (To use it , you need brave.)

7. Defibrillator in disused red phone box.

BT (British Telecom) is putting the red phone box at the heart of rural communities again. It is funding the installation of defibrillator equipment, which can help save the lives of cardiac arrest victims, into five decommissioned red phone boxes adopted by rural communities.

In addition to them, there are many up-cycled phone booths. The most important thing is the shelter for the homeless.
It seems that thoughtful minds for the underprivileged people around us make our heart warm and happy.
Because of the reason that phone booths are not useful any more, they have been demolished in my country. I hope they will be changed into the things which give hope for people in need.

The first step towards peace in the World Peace Gate of the Olympic Park

World Peace Walk
“No more war, We want peace!”

On the 19th of September, the last day of the WARP Summit, many voices were heard for the hope of peace in the World Peace Gate of the Seoul Olympic Park.

The 30,000 representatives from 650 youth group from 139 nations and political, religious, women leaders filled the World Peace Gates in order to participate in the Peace Walk. They expressed their hopes for peace, as they shouted “the beginning of peace” “the beginning of the alliance of religions” and “we are one” and held handmade posters.

“We promised to become one. And every thought and word should be towards achieving peace” said Chairman Man Hee Lee in his commemoratory speech. He also commented “We need to reach out to the global family about peace.” All other participants showed their support for Chairman Lee’s speech as they exclaimed with loud applaud.

Wasim, a representative of Youth Group in Palestine, said in his speech “Palestinian lost their hopes after the long 60 years of conflict” and added “Peace can be achieved through tolerance, understanding, and non-violence instead of armed force. Irvin, a representative of Youth Group in Ukraine who spoke after said “Unfortunately, there have been a conflict with our neighboring nation, Russia recently, but we do not war. We hope that world will be stopped in our generation to give peace as an inheritance”

After the commemoratory speech, three hails were shouted by the participants and started the main peace walk. The high-temperature did not stopped the participants from the peace walk around the World Peace Gate.

Muslim woman’s leader (EIi Warti Maliki), who is an expert on law said, she was able to understand the importance of life as a mother with a child. She continued “If we become one through the signing ceremony and WARP Summit, Peace can be truly achieved.” And “I know that the WARP summit will be the starting point of peace.”

The concern for wars around the world and the wish for peace also exited in South Korea. Gwang Min Han from Jeju city said “It is concerning to see the wars happening all over the world and I hope that the peace walk can reach out to every corner of the world so that the world of peace can come.”

HWPL is committed towards working for peace with youths from the world as they celebrated the first anniversary of the declaration this May with 100,000 members.

Skateboard made of a net

Do you like skateboard?
The skateboard I will introduce today is a little special.
This skateboard made of the nets that were thrown away into sea.

Seriously polluted, marine ecosystem in coastline of Chile has a problem with abandoned nets which are called ghost net.
The coastline of Chile is over 4000 miles and is one of the longest coastlines in the world.
Not only the amount of nets is large, but also there are hundreds of tons of the abandoned nets. The abandoned are threatening marine mammals and ecosystem and they account for 10% of plastic pollutant of sea.

Ben, David and Kevin who have passion for sea environment, are trying to find the solution through sustainable products.
Researching the plastic which makes sea polluted, they found that the abandoned nets are countless. After studying this matter, they also found this substance is durable and likely to be recycled.
So Ben, David and Kevin decided to make skateboards with these abandoned nets.
They collected the nets more than 3,000kg for 6 months. And after making them into plastic raw materials, they made skateboards with pouring the materials into molds.
The body of skateboard has a good feeling to grip and a fish pattern which is the icon of sea. The wheels are made from 30% of vegetable oil and 100% of recycling cores. In addition, there is no need to worry about loss because it has a lock function with a hook.
Fund-raising through social funding ‘kickstarter for these skateboards is over their target amount, $25000, which is twice as much of the target’ and they started production. The profits not only are used for production, but also support the community near the sea and find solutions for marine ecosystem.

Every year, about 7 billion kilogram of plastic trashes flows to sea. Being aware of this serious problem, Ben, David and Kevin made their own interesting solution.

Umbrella Revolution - Hong Kong

I didn’t know much about it these days, but it seems that many big accidents have occurred in the world. Recently, a large scale demonstration which even young students participated in broke out.

Hong Kong’s citizens who desired for complete free direct election system against intervention of election of Hong Kong’s chief executive collided with Chinese government.  It was named ‘Umbrella Revolution’ since citizens blocked teargas with their umbrella.

Umbrella Revolution gathered the maximum 60,000 people as it was the largest scale challenge after Hong Kong’s return to China in 1997. This situation tested ‘one country, two systems’ which was Hong Kong’s governing principle and plan for unification with Taiwan. Deng Xiaoping achieved returning Hong Kong to China from United Kingdom by suggesting ‘one country, two systems’ which guaranteed Hong Kong’s high autonomy and economic freedom. However, Hong Kong citizens opposed and protested since China limited candidates for minister of administration to celebrity who gained a majority vote from pro-Chinese Electoral College.

It is said that this challenge was named as ‘Umbrella Revolution’ due to influence of a 17-year- old student activist, Josyuawong(picture)

He established middle and high school student activist groups and took on representative at the age of 15 in 2012. Also, he led this demonstration and stood shoulder to shoulder with university students and representatives of citizen organizations.  He attracted voluntary participation from citizens and students, saying “I don’t want to see elementary students protesting for Hong Kong’s democracy after 10 years.  It is our responsibility.” Some people are concerned about probability for it to develop into the small scale Tiananmen Square protest.

I hope that this protest could be settled peacefully as young students participate for reaching democracy.

Sharpen your pencil

Amnesty International encourages Letter Writing Marathon movement with a print advertisement copy called “Sharpen your pencil” every year.
If you look at the picture, there are pencils that show printed pictures of victims who suffer from violence and abuse.
It is impressive to express the point that the pain of people who are outside of human rights will go away when pencils are cut in order to use them.
On December 10th, Armnesty International continues a world sized campaign which is “Letter Writing Marathon” to celebrate every year.
With petitions from all over the world, they carry on the voices of people and it requires patience and effort like marathon. The letters can be huge support for the people who are away from human rights as much as its weight and length.

The beginning of Letter Writing Marathon

Two youths in Portugal were prisoned because they toasted for freedom
Members of Amnesty International had sent petitions voluntarily and this became the foundation of ‘Letter Writing Marathon’.
An idea of ‘Letter Writing Marathon’ is from traditional letter wiring which has been continued since 1961, and members in Poland suggest the idea in 2003. Now, more than a million of letters from over 50 countries are sent.

Participate in miracle of a letter with Amnesty International

Working on 3 ways that promise a letter, act online and participate in letter night will be a big help for people whose human rights are violated.
I would like to be part of it as well. I think this would be a way to support the human right and people who have been in pain will be able to recover the right as there are many people who work for it.
