36. This is my prayer to thee, my lord -- strike, strike at the root of penury in my heart.

Give me the strength lightly to bear my joys and sorrows.   

Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service.

 Give me the strength naver to disown the poor or bend my knees before insolent might.

Give me the strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles.

And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love.

 

36. 오오, 님이시여 이는 님께 올리는 기도입니다.

 이 마음속에 자리잡은 가난의 뿌리를 살펴 주소서

나의 기쁨도 슬픔도 명랑히 견딜 힘을 주소서

내 사랑의 섬김으로 풍성한 열매 맺을 힘을 주소서

가난한 이를 외면하거나 오만한 권력 앞에 굴복하지 않을 힘을 주소서

일상의 덧없는 영위를 넘어 지고의 이상을 올릴 수 있는 힘을 주소서

또 사랑하는 님의 뜻에 복종할 수 있는 그러한 힘을 내게 주소서
